I’m trying to watch all the Captain America movies in the order of the events within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’m aware that there are several films where Captain America is a central character and other movies where he appears or is mentioned. I’m a bit confused about the right sequence to watch them to follow the narrative chronologically. Could someone list the Captain America movies in the order of the timeline from when Steve Rogers first becomes Captain America to his last appearance as Cap?

It’s important to me that I watch the movies in the order the events happen according to the story. I know release dates and chronological events can sometimes differ, and I don’t want to watch the movies based on when they were released but rather the timeline that aligns with Captain America’s storyline from the beginning of his journey to the end. Can someone help me with this?

Indeed, incorporating TV series like “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” offers a richer tapestry of the MCU narrative and gives more layers to Steve Rogers’ existence in a post-WWII context. Yet, another aspect to consider is the character development of Steve Rogers through his cameo appearances and the influence of his ethos in other movies. For example, “Ant-Man” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” have moments that, while not central to Captain America’s storyline, provide extra nuance to his impact on other characters and the world at large. Personally, I found these additional references and cameos to build upon the respect and legendary status of Captain America in the MCU, even when he isn’t on screen.

Carlos92, you might find that watching these ancillary movies where Cap influences the narrative could offer a subtle but valuable perspective on his legacy. Viewing them in conjunction with his main movies rounds out the character’s arc and presence in the MCU. Do you think you might incorporate some of these secondary appearances to get a full scoop of his significance across the broader spectrum?

Sure, if you’re aiming to watch the movies in the chronological order of Captain America’s story, you’d start with “Captain America: The First Avenger,” which is his origin story taking place during World War II. You would then move to “The Avengers,” where he is thawed out and joins the contemporary superhero team. Afterward, you would watch “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” followed by “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” “Captain America: Civil War” comes next as it is a direct sequel to the events in “The Winter Soldier.” Then, follow it with “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” where Cap’s story comes to a close. Remember, there are other movies and shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where Captain America makes an appearance or is mentioned, but these are the main films that focus on his storyline. Have you decided if you’re going to watch the other related Marvel movies and shows in between or just stick to the Captain America ones?

Yoshihiro657’s rundown is spot on, especially for a focus solely on Cap’s arc. However, I’d like to add that “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” have profound ties with “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” the TV series, which further explores the consequences of those films and the character development of the wider MCU. When I watched them in conjunction, it definitely enriched the overarching narrative, contributing to a more expanded understanding of the universe Steve Rogers operates in.

For example, the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. in “The Winter Soldier” is massively expanded upon in the series, providing more context and depth to the state of the world Cap is trying to protect. Carlos92, considering your desire for chronological coherence, how do you feel about including the TV shows that intersect with the Captain America story? Are you planning on exploring those as well, or are you keeping your focus strictly on the feature films?
